The client needed a solution that would allow them to scale quickly by integrating new car offer sources, while also providing accurate insights into key metrics like car profitability, pricing trends, and performance forecasts. They requested a system that could adapt to new sources of data, categorize car listings accurately, and generate actionable reports based on detailed car attributes.

Challenges & Solutions

Cars from different generations or facelift versions of the same make and model often share many similarities, making it difficult—even for humans—to distinguish between them.
We developed an advanced fine-grained image classification model using PyTorch and TorchVision, allowing us to distinguish subtle differences between car generations and versions with high accuracy.
Many images provided were not relevant for classification, including interior shots or photos of specific vehicle features.
We implemented an object identification model to filter out non-relevant images, ensuring only exterior shots were used for classification. This preprocessing step ensured accuracy in the classification process.
Fine-grained image classification and continuous learning from a high volume of images required significant computational resources.
We utilized Azure Databricks for data preprocessing and model training, and Azure Machine Learning with Azure Container Instances for efficient model deployment, ensuring smooth scaling and efficient resource use.
